What is an ATS score checker?

An ATS score checker shows how your resume performs when scanned by an applicant tracking system, the software most employers use to filter applications before a human sees them. Upload your resume (and ideally the job description), and you get an overall score from 0–100, a keyword match breakdown, and a prioritized list of fixes, in seconds, free.

Roughly 98% of Fortune 500 companies use an ATS, so a resume that isn't built for automated screening can be filtered out before it's judged on merit. first and stop losing applications to gaps you didn't know you had.

What is an ATS score for resume

Your score comes from three weighted factors that mirror real ATS behavior:

Keyword & Skills Match

40%

Whether the job's key terms appear in your resume, in the right sections.

Section & structure alignment

35%

Whether your headings (Work Experience, Skills, Education) parse cleanly.

Parse-rate & Formatting

25%

Whether a machine can read your file, flagging tables, columns, images, and file-type issues.

You get one 0–100 score plus a per-factor breakdown, so you know what to fix first.

What's a good ATS score for resume?

Anything above 75% or 80% generally gives you a strong chance of passing the automated screening.

90% – 100%

Exceptional

Your resume is fully optimized.

85% – 89%

Strong

You pass most automated and human checks.

80% – 84%

Solid

Your structure is clear, but recruiters may still notice minor issues.

How applicant tracking systems actually read your resume

Different platforms parse differently, which is why one resume can pass one system and fail another. Our checker accounts for the major ones: Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, Taleo, BambooHR, and SAP SuccessFactors. Each strips your file to raw text, slots it into fields, and indexes it by keyword. Anything it can't read, a skill in a graphic, a title in a table, contact info in the header, gets dropped silently.

How to improve your ATS score

Match keywords

From the job posting, using both the term and its acronym (e.g., "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)").

Use standard headings

"Work Experience," "Skills," "Education."

Remove parse-breakers

Tables, columns, images, icons. Keep contact info in the body.

Quantify results

"Grew organic revenue 42%" beats "responsible for SEO"

Use an ATS-safe file

Clean, single-column PDF or .docx with selectable text.

Real results. Real people. Specific numbers.

Honestly I didn't even know my resume was the problem. I was applying to 15+ SWE roles a week and hearing nothing back. Ran through the ATS Score Checker and saw my formatting was breaking the parser.. my skills section wasn't even being read. Fixed that, handed the rest to scale.jobs, and had 4 callbacks in two weeks. I spent that time on LeetCode instead of refreshing my inbox.

Arjun M

MS Computer Science, Arizona State

12 years in ops, and I still didn't know my resume was getting filtered before a human ever saw it. The ATS Score Checker flagged that my job titles weren't matching how the systems search for Director level roles. Once that was cleaned up and scale.jobs took over the actual applying, I had 3 senior interviews in New York in three weeks, while still working full time.

Rachel D

Director of Operations

Coming out of the bootcamp, my resume read like a clinical CV, not a healthcare IT one. The ATS Score Checker showed my keywords didn't match what recruiters were actually searching for. My concierge helped reframe my clinical background for those roles, and the applications actually started landing. First interview week 2, offer by week 7.

Not in a universal sense. Each employer's ATS is configured differently, and none share one standard score. Our score estimates how well your resume will parse and match a role, based on how the major platforms work.

An ATS checker tests whether software can read and match your resume. A resume checker also reviews the content a recruiter sees, like impact, clarity, and grammar. This tool does both.

Yes. Upload a CV and it checks parsing and keywords the same way. If you're applying in the US, it also flags where your CV differs from the US resume format.

Yes, if it's text-based. Most modern systems read PDFs fine. Problems come from tables, columns, images, and text in headers or footers.

It's optional but recommended. Without one, you get a formatting and structure check. With one, you also see exactly which skills and keywords you're missing for that role.
