An ATS score checker shows how your resume performs when scanned by an applicant tracking system, the software most employers use to filter applications before a human sees them. Upload your resume (and ideally the job description), and you get an overall score from 0–100, a keyword match breakdown, and a prioritized list of fixes, in seconds, free.
Roughly 98% of Fortune 500 companies use an ATS, so a resume that isn't built for automated screening can be filtered out before it's judged on merit. first and stop losing applications to gaps you didn't know you had.
Your score comes from three weighted factors that mirror real ATS behavior:
Whether the job's key terms appear in your resume, in the right sections.
Whether your headings (Work Experience, Skills, Education) parse cleanly.
Whether a machine can read your file, flagging tables, columns, images, and file-type issues.
You get one 0–100 score plus a per-factor breakdown, so you know what to fix first.
Aim for 75–85, not 100. A perfect score usually means keyword stuffing, which modern ATS platforms detect and penalize.
80 – 100
StrongAligns well and parses cleanly. Ready to submit.
60 – 79
DecentDecent, but improvable. Close the keyword gaps.
Below 60
Needs workReal gaps or parse failures could stop your resume early.
Different platforms parse differently, which is why one resume can pass one system and fail another. Our checker accounts for the major ones: Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, Taleo, BambooHR, and SAP SuccessFactors. Each strips your file to raw text, slots it into fields, and indexes it by keyword. Anything it can't read, a skill in a graphic, a title in a table, contact info in the header, gets dropped silently.

From the job posting, using both the term and its acronym (e.g., "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)").
"Work Experience," "Skills," "Education."
Tables, columns, images, icons. Keep contact info in the body.
"Grew organic revenue 42%" beats "responsible for SEO"
Clean, single-column PDF or .docx with selectable text.
Honestly I didn't even know my resume was the problem. I was applying to 15+ SWE roles a week and hearing nothing back. Ran through the ATS Score Checker and saw my formatting was breaking the parser.. my skills section wasn't even being read. Fixed that, handed the rest to scale.jobs, and had 4 callbacks in two weeks. I spent that time on LeetCode instead of refreshing my inbox.

12 years in ops, and I still didn't know my resume was getting filtered before a human ever saw it. The ATS Score Checker flagged that my job titles weren't matching how the systems search for Director level roles. Once that was cleaned up and scale.jobs took over the actual applying, I had 3 senior interviews in New York in three weeks, while still working full time.

Coming out of the bootcamp, my resume read like a clinical CV, not a healthcare IT one. The ATS Score Checker showed my keywords didn't match what recruiters were actually searching for. My concierge helped reframe my clinical background for those roles, and the applications actually started landing. First interview week 2, offer by week 7.

Ran my resume through the ATS Score Checker and found out recruiters weren't even seeing half my experience. Fixed the formatting and started getting callbacks within days.

I thought my resume looked fine. The tool flagged missing keywords for the roles I wanted and showed exactly what to fix. Wish I'd found this months ago.

My score was a 42 before. Followed the suggestions, got it to 89, and started hearing back from companies that had ignored me for weeks.

No fluff, just tells you what's broken and how to fix it. My skills section wasn't parsing right at all, small fix, big difference.

Didn't realize my old resume template was invisible to most ATS systems. This caught it in under a minute.

Appreciated that it flagged visa-related keyword gaps too, not just generic formatting stuff. Helped me tailor for sponsor-friendly roles.

I was applying blind for weeks. This showed me exactly which sections were tanking my score and why.

Ran it the night before a networking event, fixed three issues in ten minutes, felt way more confident sending my resume out after.

As a new grad I had no idea ATS systems were even filtering resumes. This explained it clearly and gave me a fix list.

I kept tweaking my resume based on gut feeling. This gave me actual data on what was missing for each job description.

Spent months thinking file format was the issue. The tool showed my section headers weren't standard, which was actually blocking the parse.

Didn't even need the full service to get value, the score breakdown alone told me enough to fix my resume myself.

Moving from healthcare to healthcare IT, my old resume didn't match the keywords at all. This showed the gap clearly.

No vague advice, it tells you what's wrong and why it matters for parsing. Fixed mine in one sitting.

I use it before every application now, not just once. Keeps me from repeating the same mistakes each time.

Yes. Our ATS score checker is 100% free with unlimited scans and no credit card required. Upload your resume, optionally paste a job description, and get your score and keyword report in seconds, no account needed.
Aim for 75–85. A score of 80 or above means your resume aligns well with the role and parses cleanly. Between 60 and 79 you'll likely pass basic screening but should close keyword gaps. Below 60 signals real structural or keyword problems. A perfect 100 usually indicates keyword stuffing, which modern ATS platforms penalize.
Your 0–100 score combines three weighted factors: keyword and skills match against the job description (40%), section and structure alignment (35%), and a parse-rate and formatting baseline (25%). You get the overall score plus a per-factor breakdown so you know what to fix.
Yes, most modern applicant tracking systems read text-based PDFs without issue. What breaks parsing is complex formatting tables, columns, images, text boxes, and content in headers or footers. A clean single-column PDF or .docx with selectable text is safest.
Our checker is calibrated against the parsing behavior of the most widely used enterprise ATS platforms in the US, including Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, Taleo, BambooHR, and SAP SuccessFactors.
You don't have to, but you should. Without a job description we score your resume's structure, formatting, and general readability. With one, we can also tell you exactly which role-specific keywords and skills you're missing, which is where most applications actually fail.
No. Your data is encrypted and never sold or shared with third parties, and it isn't used to train AI models. You can check your score privately and confidently.
Not past a point. Once you're in the 80s, pushing for a perfect score usually means stuffing in keywords unnaturally, which hurts you with both AI-driven ATS filters and the human recruiter who reads the resume next. Optimize for a natural read, not a perfect score.
